We deliver more!

In business the pressure is on daily to always deliver more! In the concrete industry that pressure translates to delivering more and more product as cheaply and quickly as possible, and McPhee Mixers have been challenged to adapt to these demands while still delivering a quality high end and reliable machine.
Every vehicle size has a limited legal road weight and that weight limit has to include the combined weight of the chassis and the mixer, meaning that whatever is left is what product you can carry and therefore the lightest combinations of mixer and vehicle give the biggest payload. McPhee already produce the lightest mixer body in the UK market but have adapted this past year to reducing the weights further by using R&D and TVS Group expertise to remove non-essential weight from non-structural areas of the machine, this gives them a further edge in the industry without threatening the integrity of the product in any way.
They started by fitting all of their mixers with sealed propshafts as standard. This may not sound like a huge weight saving and you’d be right, but it now means drivers would no longer need to grease their drive shafts daily and therefore allow the removal of the historical kneeling platform saving around 55Kg from each machine as standard. McPhee quickly followed that up by enlisting the help of TVS group sister company and aluminium specialists SB Components. The Wisbech based company perfectly copied McPhees standard steel water tank but in lightweight aluminium, saving a further 60Kg on each build. SB Components then used their own R&D department and by tapping into McPhees market experience they could design and create a replacement ladder and platform system also. This platform still allows for a simple driver climb but a superiorly engineered product with a further 30Kg reduction. The final weight saving implementation was I the form of a change in the optional wash box for cleaning the mixer on site. McPhees standard system was very highly regarded within the industry but retained a lot of bulk weight due to its air operated valve. The new option freed up a further 20Kg as it is fabricated fully from Lightweight High Density Polyethylene and has no valves or working parts, it has a simple gravity fed system with a clip on pipe making it’s a far lighter and more operational to boot.
These options give a whopping 165Kg on average and are quickly being adopted by the National fleet hauliers and independent operators alike.
‘A mixer driver fights the clock every day to maximise their profitability. If they can deliver more concrete they make more money and therefore weight is a big deal in our line of work. Having an 8m mixer that can actually deliver a full load is a proud statement for us and one I know our competition do not share, so it means with a McPhee Mixer you not only get a quality product you can trust to deliver 24/7, but also can deliver exactly what it says on the tin and maximise your income. We’ve seen mixers in the past with weight savings that have had structural ill effects on the product so we’re very proud to have created these gains and still deliver without question day in day out. We are lucky to have our group network to help us with our evolution and all the weight savings coupled with the change in loading cone earlier in the year that allows the mixer to fill quicker have given us a mixer that’s not only friendly on the driver in operational terms, but also friendly on his pocket!’ Lindsey Rudd, Sales Director.
