Smile you're on Camera

These days road collisions and accidents with vehicles and pedestrians due to lack of visibility are higher than ever, although accident levels are rising throughout the UK the levels are far highest in London. The Mayor, Sadiq Khan has adopted Vision Zero for road danger in London, aiming for all deaths and serious injuries from road collisions to be eliminated from London’s streets by 2041. Vision Zero means ensuring the street environment incorporates safe speeds, safe behaviours, safe street design and safe vehicles to target road danger at its source. To achieve this target and reduce risk relating to heavy goods vehicles (HGVs) and people walking and cycling, Direct Vision Standard (DVS) has been developed as a safety permit for all lorries more than 12 tonnes GVW entering or operating in Greater London. In the UK each HGV must have a DVS star rating and from the 26th October 2020 the minimum DVS start rating will be one star to enter Greater London and this will then increase to three stars in 2024.

McPhee Mixers have offered additional options for years to cater for all manner of driver requirements and now more than ever camera fitments are the top of every safety list. McPhee now offer a full camera fitment on both bodying sites in Blantyre and Wisbech to cover all areas of FORS approved and Direct Vision standards and all covered under their own TVS Group whole vehicle type approval.

McPhee are the primary mixer builders to all the 5 national fleets in the UK and the countries market leader, but in the past have built the mixer and sent it out to have additional systems applied elsewhere, this new adaptation of business allows all the work to be done in house cutting down movement costs, purchase costs and in turn driver waiting times. All levels of vision can be catered for from reversing cameras to full DVS. The most popular system currently is the 4 way camera system with side scan and left turn alarm which can be used all over the UK.

Sales Director, Lindsey Rudd said ‘The ability to fit cameras on site here at McPhee and down at SB Component’s in Wisbech where we also body our mixers is a great card to have in our hand. Now more than ever mixer drivers are having to take safety even more seriously and pretty soon all mixer will HAVE to have cameras fitted to them, whether delivering to the centre of London or to a house in a leafy village, so what better than to cater for our customer in one swoop and deliver a total package. Our camera fitment’s are not only saving drivers a lot of money but also time too and that’s all part of what McPhees family ethos is about. The response has been great so far and very welcomed, so were looking forward to seeing our mixers leave us fully stocked, fully compliant and all under our type approval saving all kinds of hassle’.

The images picture recent jobs camera fitments done within McPhees portfolio and now the company and its parent group TVS are pushing fitment on all vehicles to leave with great response from the driver and haulier network. If you require more information, unsure if your mixer needs cameras or have a vehicle ordered you wish to have cameras fitted too please contact the Blantyre office on 01698 823422 or Sales Director, Lindsey Rudd on 07778 466829.
